about

Intended to be dropped on Ripley's birthday two short weeks back, the original version ran into issues with streaming services (someone filed a copyright claim on something they shouldn't have).

When his distributor gave him no recourse, Ripley was faced with the choice to completely re-write the instrumental himself, or do nothing.

The new "Mandatory Remix" includes unique and experimental sounds - everything from dancehall-esque drums, to timpani, to EDM-centric samples. All this is juxtaposed against fast-paced and hard-hitting bars.

Recorded in one take on a handheld mic, the new song functions as a sequel to 2021's "They Say" from Ripley's acclaimed GOD COMPLEX album.

Topically, Ripley stated on the track, "I have this tendency to worry about what other people think about me. It’s even worse when people are on some BS, then it can teeter into obsessive."

This original version of the track is a boom-bap instrumental reminiscent of a Good Kid, MAAD City Kendrick Lamar - and is produced by Pilotkid (Russ, Joey Bada$$). For obvious reasons, it's available on Soundcloud and Bandcamp only (for now).

about

Saint Ripley Chicago, Illinois

Saint Ripley is a different breed of rapper. Ripley’s 40 oz.-addled punk rock youth bled into his 20’s as he rocked stages in Filthy Hands, his politically-driven hip-hop duo. His first full length album, Thoughts & Prayers, dropped in 2019. The 16-track solo debut featured songs with Chicago stars, Mick Jenkins and Supa Bwe. You can look forward to much more from Saint Ripley in 2020 and beyond. ... more
